Evan Burkitt's Home Page

I work as a software developer at Edulink Systems, where I am currently working to enhance our flagship product, the Intouch Autodialer. I work primarily in C++, with forays into C, Perl and Microsoft's .NET Framework.

At previous jobs I have worked as a printer repair technician, a school bus driver and an auto parts counterman. I have been involved with computers in one form or another for over 20 years. I started out learning BASIC on a Maxsym data logger, then graduated to writing printer test programs on an Apple II and, later, an IBM PC. As time went on I discovered assembly language, then Pascal and the miracle of compilation. I worked primarily with Turbo Pascal for a few years, during which time I discovered and embraced object-oriented programming. About 12 years ago I started using C++ and it has been my language of choice since then. I've lately begun a serious effort to learn Ruby and the Web development framework built on it, Ruby on Rails.

I graduated from South High School in Torrance, CA, class of '73. My most recent scholastic achievement was receiving my Bachelors degree in Computer Engineering from Cal State Long Beach in Spring 2000. I probably could have spent less time between these two events, but that's not the way it worked out.

I live in Costa Mesa, CA in a very small apartment about 3 1/2 miles from the beach. I have two cats, a car, a truck and a motorcycle.

Here are some small utility programs you might find useful.
